Isotropic polymer bonded Nd-Fe-B magnets (NEOQUENCH-P)

Daido's NEOQUENCH-P is a series of isotropic polymer bonded magnets based on Nd-Fe-B.
The raw material powder is manufactured by rapid quenching of prescribed alloys into nanocristalline flakes which are subsequently annealed for optimum magnetic properties.

Shortly after the invention of rapidly quenched Nd-Fe-B magnet powders, Daido had started to develop polymer bonded magnets from these powders.
By 1987, Daido had completed the development of high performance, high demensional accuracy bonded Nd-Fe-B utilizing its original manufacturing techniques, such as mixing, injection, coating, and magnetization.
Daido is the first to commercialize injection molded Nd-Fe-B magnets in Japan.

Daido also developed epoxy electrodeposition coating and high heat resistant magnet grades.

Applications of NEOQUENCH-P

NEOQUENCH-P are isotropic bonded magnets.
Unlike anisotropic bonded magnets which require magnetic field alignment, these magnets are not magnetized during the pressing.
Therefore, it is easier to prevent magnetic particle contamination.
Taking advantage of its high cost perfoamance, NEOQUENCH-P is being used in various applications, including personal computers, cell phones, and various sensors.

Forming methods of NEOQUENCH-P

NEOQUENCH-P are formed by either injection molding or compression molding.
Injection molding provides flexible shapes and compression molding provides higher magnetic properties.

Injection Molding

Injection molded magnets are made by injecting the special compound, a mixture of Nd magnet powder and high performance polymer, into the mold. These magnets cover a wide range of characteristics as isotropic bonded magents, including heat resistance and higher performance. Injection molding offers very flexible shape design as well as overmolding and insert molding with other parts for easy and reliable assemblies.

Overmolded or insert molded assemblies

Features of injection molded magnets

  1. Daido's injection molded magnets have a high level of magnetic properties among Nd based isotropic injection molded magnets.
  2. Since these are isotropic in nature, any magnetization patterns can be used. This is especially advantageous to multi-pole magnetization.
  3. Injection molding provides better dimensional accuracy and excellent serial productivity.
  4. Thin wall thickness (minimum 0.3 mm) and complicated shapes can be produced. *1
  5. Overmolding and insert molding with other parts, such as back yoke, hub, shaft is readily available, as well as injecting other polymer parts can be incorporated.
  6. A high volume fraction of polyer binders provide adequate protection against corrosion without additional coating in most applications. *2
  • 1 Minimum wall thickness depends on the shape and 0.3 mm may not be achieved in some cases. Please consult with our sales staff.
  • 2 If a surface coating is required or desired for your specific application, please consult with our sales staff as we do have a coating suitable for injection molded magnets.
NEOQUENCH-C is an injection molding compound for NdFeB. High performance magnets can be produced by using NEOQUENCH-C.

2 Shot technology

The 2 shot technology is a method of injection molding where two different materials are consecutively injected for form a single integral product.

Features of 2 shot tehcnology

  • Adhesive bonding or other assembly processes can be eliminated.
  • Higher geometrical precision (such as concentricity) can be achieved.
  • Manufacturing cost saving

Comression molding

Compression molded magnets are made by first mixing the magnetic powder with the polymer binder and then by compressing the mixture in a press mold. These magnets exhibit a higher level of performance than the injection molded couterparts due to higher density.

Compression molded magnets assembled with shaft, yoke and other parts.

Features of compression molded magnets

  1. Highest level of magnetic performance among Nd-Fe-B isotropic bonded magnets.
  2. Since these are isotropic in nature, any magnetization patterns can be used. This is especially advantageous to multi-pole magnetization.
  3. Thin wall thickness (minimum 0.3 mm) can be produced. *1
  4. Excellent corrosion resistance is realized by Daido original coating technology.
